This project is a chance to create bookmarks as unique as your reading style.
You can mix pearls, glass beads, and crystals with charms that reflect your personality, maybe a moon for your love of the night, a clock for your fascination with time, or a fairy for your whimsical side.
Specially, the metal hook design makes them sit neatly inside your book while the beads cascade outside like a tiny chain of treasures.
Not only do they hold your place, but they also become little reminders of your personality and the worlds you love to explore.
Materials Needed
- Metal bookmark hooks (4-5 inches long, 3-5 pieces)
- Glass beads, pearls, or crystal beads (50-60 mixed sizes, 6 mm–10 mm)
- Charms of your choice (fairy, moon, clock, 3-5 pieces, 1–2” each)
- Headpins or eyepins (20-25 pieces)
- Jump rings (15-20, 6 mm)
- Chain nose pliers
- Wire cutters
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Gather your beads and charms. Lay them out in the order you’d like the beads to sit, alternating sizes and colors gives the best look.
Step 2: Thread a bead onto a headpin, then use pliers to make a loop at the top. Repeat for each bead until you have 15-20 bead links ready.
Step 3: Connect the bead links together using jump rings, forming a small chain. Then add variety by mixing pearls, glass beads, and crystals.
Step 4: Attach your charm to the end of the chain with a jump ring. Make sure it hangs freely without tangling.
Step 5: Use another jump ring to attach the top of the bead chain to the metal bookmark hook. You now press closed with pliers.
Step 6: Test the bookmark inside a book. The hook should rest inside the spine while the beads and charm dangle beautifully outside.
Step 7: Repeat with different charms to make a full set, each one unique to your mood or favorite book theme.
Notes:
If you want a sturdier design, use wire-wrapped loops instead of basic ones. This ensures your beads won’t slip or loosen after long use.
