How to Craft a Playful Felt Flower BookmarkIt feels like these little flowers lean out from the page to remind you: stories are alive.

With felt petals, painted stems, and a wooden bead face, each flower carries its own charm.

You can play with colors and patterns, giving each one a personality like cheerful red, sunny yellow, or calm lavender.

They make wonderful handmade gifts for teachers, children, or any book lover. Each time you slip one between the pages, it’s like planting a tiny blossom in your story.

Materials Needed

  • Wooden craft sticks (6″ length, 0.75″ width)
  • Acrylic paints (green for leaves/stem, brown for accents)
  • Paintbrush set (fine and medium tip)
  • Felt sheets (red, purple, yellow, and other colors of choice, 4″ × 4″)
  • Wooden beads (1″ diameter, for faces)
  • Black fine-tip marker or paint pen (for drawing faces)
  • Mini ribbon bows (2″ wide, plaid or plain)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Clear varnish to seal painted stems

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Paint each wooden craft stick green, adding grass-like strokes at the bottom and leaf details up the sides. Let dry.

Step 2: Cut five-petal flower shapes from felt sheets, each about 3-4″ wide. You can trace a template for even petals.

Step 3: Glue a wooden bead in the center of each felt flower to form the face. Use a marker or paint to add simple eyes and a smile.

Step 4: Attach the flower to the top of the painted craft stick with hot glue, securing firmly.

Step 5: Tie or glue a small ribbon bow at the base of the flower, right above the stem.

Step 6: Add extra details if you like such as painted polka dots on the petals or tiny blush marks on the bead faces.

Step 7: Allow everything to dry completely before using them as bookmarks.

Tips:

Create a garden set by making flowers in different colors and giving each one a unique expression. They’re perfect for gifting as a handmade classroom bouquet.
