Imagine your staircase dressed in fluffy snowballs and tassels that sway every time you walk by.
Each pom-pom feels like a tiny winter cloud, while the tassels bring elegance with every drop.
It’s a craft that combines fun and sophistication, perfect for anyone who wants a handmade piece that feels both whimsical and stylish.
Materials Needed
- Yarn in 4-5 colors (red, green, white, blush pink, cream, each 100g skein)
- Pom-pom maker set (sizes 2″, 3″, and 4″) or cardboard circles
- Yarn for tassels (same colors as pom-poms, approx. 50g per tassel)
- Sharp scissors
- Large yarn needle
- Jute twine or thick yarn string (10-12 feet long)
- Optional: small Christmas charms, bells, or felt shapes
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start by making your pom-poms using a pom-pom maker or cardboard circles.
You can mix sizes (2″, 3″, 4″) for a varied, layered look. Then trim edges to keep them round and fluffy.
Step 2: For tassels, wrap yarn around a 6″ piece of cardboard about 30 times.
Slide off, tie at the top, then cut loops at the bottom. Wrap an extra piece of yarn near the top to form the tassel neck.
Step 3: Cut a 10-12 foot piece of jute twine (or yarn) for the base. This will be your garland string.
Step 4: Thread pom-poms onto the twine with a yarn needle, spacing them 4-6 inches apart. Alternate colors and sizes for balance.
Step 5: Tie tassels between pom-poms, letting them hang freely. Then add small charms, felt stars, or mini bells for extra detail.
Step 6: Secure the garland on your railing, mantel, or wall using clear hooks or thumbtacks. Adjust spacing until it feels full and even.
Tips:
Fluff your pom-poms with your fingers once they’re strung, they compress easily during threading.
If you want a fuller look, double the number of pom-poms and overlap them slightly.
