No bulbs to break, no tangles to fight, just bold, colorful cutouts dancing across a rustic wooden backdrop.
Each bulb, whether plaid or painted, feels like a burst of holiday joy.
Moreover, the beaded hanger at the top finishes it with a crafty touch that whispers farmhouse Christmas.
It’s a playful way to dress up your walls without adding another plug to the outlet.
Materials Needed
- 1 wooden board (about 12”×18”, banner cut optional)
- 6-8 wood light bulb cutouts (4”-5” tall)
- Acrylic paint (red, green, black, white, and plaid stencil or patterned paper)
- Paintbrushes (1” flat + small detail brush)
- Hot glue gun + sticks
- Jute rope (about 5 ft)
- Wooden beads (12-15, 1” size)
- Drill (for holes at top of board)

Step 2: Paint the wooden bulb cutouts in red, green, and black-and-white patterns. Then add white highlights for shine marks.
Step 3: Cut the jute rope into lengths and arrange it in looping patterns across the board. Now, you hot glue to secure.
Step 4: Glue the bulbs evenly along the rope as if they’re strung together.
Step 5: Drill two holes at the top of the board and thread the beaded hanger through, knotting on the back to secure.
Step 6: Hang your new holiday sign on a wall, door, or mantel hook and admire the handmade charm.
Tip:
You can swap out the colors for metallic paints (gold, silver, bronze) if you’d like a more modern take on this farmhouse piece.
