How to Make Charming Acorn Ornaments for a Nature-Inspired ChristmasImagine walking through the woods on a crisp December morning, pockets filling with acorns as you go.

Later, at home, those same acorns turn into sparkling ornaments, tiny gifts from nature wearing plaid bows.

Each one carries that mix of simplicity and festivity, turning your tree into something that feels both personal and timeless.

Materials Needed

  • Acorns – 12 large, sturdy ones (about 1″–1.5″ long)
  • Gold acrylic paint or glitter paint – 1 small bottle
  • Clear gloss spray or Mod Podge – 1 bottle for sealing
  • Red tartan ribbon – 1 yard (cut into 6″ strips for bows)
  • Gold hanging cord or twine – 12 pieces, 8″ each
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Small paintbrush

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Clean and dry your acorns, making sure the caps are firmly attached. If any caps are loose, secure them with a dab of hot glue.

Step 2: Use a small brush to paint the acorn caps with gold paint or glitter paint. Let them dry completely before moving on.

Step 3: Apply a clear gloss spray or Mod Podge over the entire acorn to give it a shiny, durable finish. Allow it to dry fully.

Step 4: Cut your tartan ribbon into 6″ strips. Then tie each strip into a small bow, trimming the ends neatly at an angle.

Step 5: Cut 8″ pieces of gold cord or twine. You form each into a loop and hot glue it to the back of the acorn cap for hanging.

Step 6: Glue a ribbon bow to the front of each acorn, just above the cap, so it looks like the acorn is “wearing” it.

Tip:

Mix in different bow colors such as green, white, or gold for variety, while still keeping a cohesive set.

These also make wonderful gift toppers if you tie them onto wrapped presents.
