Sometimes the best decorations come together with the simplest materials.
Imagine sitting with your kids at the table, winding twine into playful loops and watching each little tree take shape in your hands.
The wooden stick becomes a trunk, the loops of jute form branches, and the tiny snowflake topper makes it sparkle with holiday spirit.
In less than half an hour, you’ve got ornaments that feel both rustic and heartfelt, ready to hang on the tree or tie onto gifts.
Materials Needed
- Craft sticks or popsicle sticks (4.5” long, 1 per ornament)
- Jute twine (around 3 ft. per ornament)
- Wooden snowflake embellishments (1 per ornament)
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
- Scissors
- Optional: small beads or buttons for extra detail
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start by wrapping the bottom half inch of the popsicle stick tightly with twine to form the “tree trunk.” Secure with hot glue.
Step 2: Cut 6-7 lengths of twine, each slightly longer than the one before.
Next, fold each piece in half to create loops, then glue them horizontally across the stick, starting small at the top and working down to the widest at the bottom.
Step 3: Continue layering the loops until the tree shape forms naturally. Trim ends if needed for balance.
Step 4: Glue a small wooden snowflake or star at the top of the stick as a topper. Then add beads or buttons for ornaments if you’d like more color.
Step 5: Attach a loop of twine to the back for hanging, and your rustic tree ornament is ready for the holiday season.
Tips:
These ornaments look charming as a set. Make five or six, then tie them to wrapped presents or hang them on your tree for a consistent rustic theme.
