How to Craft a Festive Mini Broom Ornament with Citrus and SpicesIn folklore, brooms were symbols of home, sweeping away negativity and inviting good fortune.

This mini broom carries that same spirit, adorned with dried citrus for sunlight, evergreens for life, and star anise for protection.

The result is a small talisman of nature that not only decorates your home but also whispers old stories each time you pass by.

Whether used as an ornament, a wall charm, or a thoughtful handmade gift, it’s a piece that feels alive with tradition.

Materials Needed

  • 1 small decorative broom (6-8 inches long, available at craft stores)
  • 2 dried orange slices (approx. 2-3 inches each)
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches long)
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 1-2 mini pinecones
  • Fresh or faux evergreen sprigs (2-3 inches long)
  • Small berries or seed pods (optional)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Twine or ribbon

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Start with your mini broom. If it has a loop for hanging, make sure it’s secure, or attach a piece of twine at the handle top.

Step 2: Choose a dried orange slice as the focal point. Then place it on the lower half of the broom and glue it firmly against the bristles.

Step 3: Layer a cinnamon stick and star anise slightly angled across the orange slice, securing them with hot glue.

Step 4: Add greenery by tucking in evergreen sprigs to either side of the oranges, creating a natural frame.

Step 5: Glue on small accents like pinecones or seed pods to fill gaps and add texture.

Step 6: Check that everything is balanced, then let the glue cool completely. Hang your broom where it can catch the eye and spread a touch of woodland charm.

Tips:

If you want to gift these, wrap them in kraft paper with a note explaining their symbolism, it makes the handmade piece even more meaningful.
