Picture a candle flickering on a quiet winter evening, wrapped with the golden glow of a dried orange slice.
The rustic twine and star anise create a little story of woodland walks and festive markets.
These decorated candles feel like treasures you might find at a Christmas fair, but you get to create them at home with your own hands.
Materials Needed
- 2-3 pillar candles (4-6 inches tall, white or cream)
- 3-5 dried orange slices (approx. 2.5-3 inches each)
- 3-5 whole star anise pods
- Natural jute twine or rustic string (2-3 ft per candle)
- Hot glue gun (low-temp recommended)
- Optional: small pinecones, cinnamon sticks, or evergreen sprigs for decoration
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Wrap the jute twine once or twice around the middle of each candle, securing it tightly.
Step 2: Position a dried orange slice on the front of the candle and attach it with hot glue.
Step 3: Place a star anise pod in the center of the orange slice and glue it securely.
Step 4: Tie the twine ends in a neat knot or bow at the back of the candle.
Step 5: Finally, arrange your finished candles on wooden coasters or surrounded by pinecones for a complete rustic display.
Tips:
If you’re planning to light the candles often, attach the decorations lower on the candle so they remain out of the flame’s reach.
You can also use flameless LED candles for a safe and lasting option.
