Transform a simple pallet into a festive Santa sign that radiates holiday spirit.
The base is whitewashed for a rustic, snowy effect, then decorated with bright red “HO HO HO” letters.
A cheerful Santa face with a tall red hat crowns the piece, while large bells tied with greenery add the finishing touch.
It’s an easy project with big visual impact, perfect for porches, entryways, or even as a backdrop for holiday photos.
Materials Needed
- 1 pallet board or wood slats (approx. 48” tall × 14” wide)
- Acrylic paint (white, red, black, peach, and pink)
- Paintbrush set (flat and detail brushes)
- Wood cutout or stencil for Santa face and hat
- Wooden or MDF letters (3 × “HO” about 4-6” tall)
- Sandpaper (120 grit)
- Strong craft glue or wood glue
- Large decorative jingle bells (2-3)
- Small pine sprigs or faux greenery
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Sand down your pallet board for a smoother surface. Then apply a whitewash coat by mixing white paint with water, then brush on and wipe back for a rustic look.
Step 2: Paint or attach wooden letters spelling “HO HO HO” evenly down the center of the pallet. Bright red gives the best pop of color.
Step 3: Create Santa’s head by painting or attaching a pre-made cutout.
Next, paint his face peach, add white for the beard, and red for the tall hat. Use black paint for eyes and outline details.
Step 4: Attach oversized jingle bells near Santa’s beard area, tying them with greenery or ribbon for a festive accent.
Step 5: Let everything dry, then lean the sign against a wall, door, or corner where it can welcome guests.
Notes:
If you want an outdoor version, make sure to seal the pallet with a weatherproof topcoat. You can also replace the letters with stencils if you prefer a painted look.
