How to Make a Statement Giant Ornament with Holiday CharmBig ornaments like this are surprisingly easy to craft, and they instantly transform your décor into something magazine-worthy.

All you need is a large plastic bowl set, some paint, and a little creativity.

The addition of a rich patterned bow and golden detail gives it that elegant, upscale look while keeping the process fun and approachable.

Materials Needed

  • 2 large plastic bowls (10-12” diameter, same size)
  • Acrylic or chalk paint (any festive color, approx. 4 oz)
  • 1 small plastic cup or ornament cap for the topper
  • Gold spray paint
  • 1 decorative holiday bow (red, patterned, or wired, about 8” wide)
  • Faux greenery sprigs (2-3 small pieces)
  • Jute rope or thick twine (12-14”)
  • Hot glue gun + glue sticks

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Paint the outside of the two bowls with your chosen festive color.

Chalk paint works well for a matte, rustic look, while acrylic offers a smoother finish. Let them dry fully.

Step 2: Hot glue the rims of the bowls together to form a perfect sphere. Then hold them in place until secure.

Step 3: Spray paint the small plastic cup (or ornament cap) gold and let dry. You can glue it on top of the ornament as the cap.

Step 4: Form a loop with your jute rope and glue it into the cap. This becomes the hanging handle of your giant ornament.

Step 5: Attach the large bow just under the cap. Secure greenery sprigs behind the bow for extra detail and texture.

Step 6: Display your giant ornament on a tabletop, entryway bench, or floor by the Christmas tree.

It works beautifully as a stand-alone piece or clustered with others for a grand display.

Tip:

I once used metallic paint for the base color, and under warm Christmas lights, it shimmered like a real ornament, absolutely stunning for evening gatherings!
