How to Make a Charming Doily Snowman Wall Hanging

This snowman reminds me of winter afternoons at my grandmother’s house, where doilies covered every table and dresser.

Turning them into a festive wall hanging feels like stitching memories into a new story.

The combination of lace, worn fabric, and buttons creates a gift that feels homemade in the best possible way.

Materials Needed

  • 3 crocheted doilies (approx. 4″, 6″, and 8″ diameter)
  • 1 wooden plaque or recycled board (10”-12” tall)
  • Corrugated cardboard for hat (6”×4” piece)
  • 3 medium wooden buttons (1” diameter)
  • 1 small piece of orange felt or wood (1” long)
  • 2 black beads or buttons
  • 6-8 small black buttons/beads
  • Scrap fabric strips (approx. 12” long)
  • Extra fabric/ribbon pieces
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Acrylic paint (optional: white, pink)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Prepare your wooden board by painting or distressing it for a rustic look. A light beige or snowflake stencil background works beautifully.

Step 2: Arrange your three doilies in a snowman shape (large at bottom, medium in middle, small on top) and glue them securely to the board.

Step 3: Attach two small black beads or buttons as eyes, then use a strip of orange felt or painted wood for the carrot nose.

Next, add small black buttons/beads in a curve for the mouth.

Step 4: Glue three larger wooden buttons down the center for the snowman’s body buttons.

Step 5: Cut a piece of corrugated cardboard into a hat shape, paint or stain it if you like, and glue it above the snowman’s head.

You can also add a tiny button or bow as decoration.

Step 6: Tie a strip of fabric into a scarf shape and glue it around the snowman’s neck. Let the ends hang loosely for a natural effect.

Step 7: Create a rustic bow using leftover fabric and ribbon scraps, then glue it at the top of the board for a finishing touch.

Step 8: Optional: Dab pink paint onto the cheeks for a rosy look and lightly brush white paint on the edges for a snowy finish.

Tip:

If you plan to gift this, you can even add a small hook or twine loop on the back so it’s ready to hang.
