If you’ve ever wished your yard could host Santa’s helpers, this DIY reindeer project gets you close.
With just a few logs, some sticks, and googly eyes, you can create a duo that looks ready to prance across the driveway.
Kids will adore them, neighbors will stop for a smile, and you’ll feel like you’ve given winter a playful nod.
You can think of it as a woodland cartoon coming to life right outside your door.
Materials Needed
- 1 medium log (18-20” length, 5-6” diameter)
- 1 smaller log (8-10” length, 3-4” diameter)
- 8 sturdy sticks (12-15” each)
- 2 shorter sticks (6-8”)
- 2 branched sticks (10-12”)
- Googly eyes (2 per reindeer)
- Wood glue or small nails/screws
- Drill with a bit slightly smaller than the stick diameter
- Optional: red felt or pom-pom for the nose, scarves, or ribbon
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start with the body log. Then place it horizontally and drill four holes at an angle on the underside for legs.
Step 2: Insert sticks for legs and secure with glue or nails. Make sure they’re even so your reindeer stands steadily.
Step 3: Drill a hole at one end of the body log to attach the head. You can fit the smaller log vertically or at a slight tilt.
Step 4: Add antlers and ears by drilling small holes at the top and sides of the head log. Then insert sticks securely.
Step 5: Glue on googly eyes and a red pom-pom nose for personality.
Step 6: Finish by wrapping a scarf or ribbon around the neck to give your reindeer holiday charm.
