The moment guests step through your door, their eyes meet this message woven in nature’s tones: “give thanks.”
The rough texture of burlap balances the softness of autumn leaves, each one carrying the glow of fall colors.
Together they create more than a decoration, they create a pause.
Materials Needed
- 1 burlap fabric piece (24” × 36” or larger, depending on wall space)
- Artificial fall leaves (25-30 assorted in red, orange, yellow, and green)
- Thick jute rope (6-8 ft for writing phrase, plus extra for trimming)
- Hot glue gun with glue sticks (about 5-6 sticks)
- Scissors
- Wooden dowel (optional, 24” wide)
- Thumbtacks or nails for mounting
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Lay out your burlap fabric on a flat surface and trim edges if needed.
Step 2: Arrange artificial leaves at the top and bottom, layering them to create fullness. Then glue them down securely.
Step 3: Shape the jute rope into the words “give thanks,” practicing on the table first.
Step 4: Once you’re happy with the shape, carefully glue the rope letters onto the center of the burlap.
Step 5: Attach the top of the fabric to a wooden dowel (optional) for easy hanging, or mount directly onto the wall with thumbtacks or small nails.
Notes:
If you’d like to make it even more personal, add small clothespins to hold handwritten notes of gratitude from your family. Over time, it transforms into a living display of thankfulness.
