Think of Thanksgiving night after the big feast, when you’re curled up on the couch.
Instead of reaching for a second slice of pie, you grab one of these whimsical pumpkin pie pillows.
They look delicious enough to eat but bring comfort instead of calories.
The golden-orange fabric, fluffy crust trim, and plush whipped cream detail all come together in a design that feels both festive and homey.
Materials Needed
- 1 yard orange patterned cotton fabric
- ½ yard beige fleece or felt
- Small piece of white fleece or felt (for whipped cream)
- Polyester stuffing (enough to fill 2 pillows)
- Thread in matching colors (orange, beige, white)
- Sewing machine or hand-sewing needles
- Fabric scissors and pins
- Paper for pie-slice pattern template
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Create a pie-slice template from paper, about 16-18” long, and cut out two orange pieces for each pillow.
Step 2: Cut a strip of beige fleece about 3” wide to form the crust edge. You pin it along the top of one orange slice piece, ruffling slightly to mimic pie crust texture.
Step 3: Sew the beige strip in place, then sew the front and back orange pieces together, leaving a small opening.
Step 4: Turn the pillow right side out and stuff it firmly with polyester filling. Next, sew the opening closed.
Step 5: Cut two white fleece circles, sew them halfway around, stuff lightly, and close to make whipped cream. Stitch onto the pillow top for the final touch.
Notes:
You can size the pillows smaller for kids or make jumbo ones for extra holiday flair.
For a playful set, sew a few in different “flavors” by using red fabric for cherry pie or brown for pecan pie.
