Step into the shoes of someone who wandered a little too close to a hungry plant.
This costume makes it look as if Venus flytraps are crawling up your arms and legs, wrapping around your body, and trying to swallow you whole.
Each toothy trap seems ready to bite, making you look like you walked right out of a creepy science experiment gone wrong.
Materials Needed
- 6-8 large paper plates (10-12” diameter)
- Green and red acrylic paint (2 oz each)
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
- 100 plastic straws or toothpicks
- Thick green rope or flexible tubing (8-10 ft long)
- Green fabric or duct tape (to cover rope/tubing)
- Old jeans and t-shirt
- Plastic bugs (12-15 pack)
- Face paint (optional: scratches, bite marks)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut paper plates in half and paint the inside red and the outside green. Once dry, glue plastic straws or toothpicks along the edges for the trap teeth.
Step 2: Glue two plate halves together at the edges to create open flytrap mouths. Make 6-8 traps in varying sizes.
Step 3: Wrap your rope or tubing in green fabric or duct tape to look like plant vines.
Step 4: Attach the flytraps along the vine with hot glue, spacing them out so they look like they’re climbing up the rope.
Step 5: Drape the vine around your body, starting from one shoulder and looping it down your torso and legs. Secure lightly with safety pins.
Step 6: Add plastic bugs inside the traps for a realistic touch, and use face paint to draw bites or scratches on your skin for extra drama.
Tip:
Make the traps slightly oversized for comic effect, it makes the whole costume look exaggerated and fun, perfect for Halloween photos.
