When I first made my pom-pom rug, I didn’t expect it to feel this good. It turned out so plush and cheerful that even the cat decided it was her new throne. T
he way the pom-poms cluster together creates a texture that’s irresistibly cozy. It’s like laying down a patch of joy right in your living room.
And making it is surprisingly relaxing, tying pom-poms while watching a show quickly turned into one of my favorite little rituals.
Materials Needed
- Yarn in 2-3 colors (soft and thick works best)
- Pom-pom maker (or cardboard circles)
- Rug mat or anti-slip mat (size of your choice)
- Scissors
- Strong thread or zip ties
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Make plenty of pom-poms in your chosen colors. Aim for at least 40-60 for a small rug, more if you want it bigger.
Step 2: Trim each pom-pom evenly so they’re fluffy and round.
Step 3: Attach the pom-poms securely to your rug mat, either by threading them through or tying with zip ties. Keep them close together for a fuller look.
Step 4: Continue filling in the entire mat, alternating colors to create patterns or a random playful mix.
Step 5: Shake out your rug, fluff the pom-poms, and place it in your favorite cozy spot.
Tips:
If you want extra durability, stitch the pom-poms tighter or use strong glue for reinforcement.
This rug works beautifully near the bed, in a reading nook, or even as a playful mat for kids.
