Here's Way to Give New Life to a Yogurt Jar as a Fresh Flower Vase

Imagine finishing a yogurt at breakfast and, instead of tossing the jar, filling it with flowers from your garden.

Suddenly, your table has a handmade centerpiece, one that costs nothing and feels deeply personal.

Plus, a yogurt jar makes the perfect vessel for small bouquets, and the size is just right for side tables, desks, or even as a bedside accent.

Materials Needed

  • 1 yogurt jar (5 oz, about 3″ tall × 2.5″ wide)
  • Fresh flowers (3-5 medium stems or 1 small bouquet)
  • Water (fill jar about â…” full)
  • Optional: jute twine or ribbon (12–14″ long)
  • Optional: small pebbles or glass beads (½ cup)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Clean the yogurt jar thoroughly, peeling off the label if you want a clear glass finish.

Step 2: Fill the jar about two-thirds full with water. For extra charm, add decorative stones or glass beads at the bottom.

Step 3: Trim flower stems to about 6–8″ so they sit proportionally with the jar’s small height. Then place them inside, arranging tallest stems in the middle and shorter blooms at the edges.

Step 4: Tie a ribbon or jute twine around the neck of the jar for a rustic touch.

Step 5: Place your mini vase somewhere it catches the light. A sunny windowsill or dining table works best to highlight both the flowers and the recycled glass.

Tips:

Change the water every two days to keep flowers fresh longer. If you want a seasonal spin, add wildflowers in spring, sunflowers in summer, or holly branches in winter.
