How to Make One-of-a-Kind Earrings from Comic Pages

Think of each earring as a folded secret, a piece of a comic’s world transformed into a jewel.

The paper becomes fabric, the panels become patterns, and suddenly you’re not just accessorizing, you’re carrying sparks of story at your ears.

They’re bold, lightweight, and full of personality, like a whisper from your favorite superhero following you into the day.

Materials Needed

  • 2 comic book pages (choose ones with vibrant colors or dramatic panels, around 4”×6” each)
  • Jewelry findings: 2 earring hooks, 2 jump rings (8-10 mm)
  • Thin cardboard or cardstock backing
  • Mod Podge (matte or glossy, 4 oz)
  • Small foam brush
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch (1/16”) or needle for making holes
  • Jewelry pliers (round-nose and flat-nose)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Start by selecting your comic panels. I love choosing bold colors or characters, it’s almost like curating little bursts of art. Then cut two rectangles roughly 2”×3”.

Step 2: Glue each paper rectangle onto a piece of thin cardboard or cardstock to give it strength. You now smooth out wrinkles with your fingers and let it dry fully.

Step 3: Once dry, coat both sides with Mod Podge to seal the paper.

This step is important as it makes the earrings durable and gives them a nice finish. Let them dry overnight if possible.

Step 4: Fold the sealed paper into a fan shape (like you would with origami).

This gives the earrings texture and makes them look more dimensional. Trim the edges into a pointed or leaf-like shape.

Step 5: Punch a small hole at the top of each folded piece.

You next attach a jump ring through the hole, then connect it to your earring hook with pliers. Make sure everything feels secure.

Step 6: Hold them up to the light and admire the way the colors catch.

I found that darker panels make dramatic evening earrings, while brighter, cartoon-style ones feel playful and fun for daytime wear.

Tips:

Don’t rush the sealing step. The sturdier the paper becomes, the longer these earrings will last.

I even experimented with adding a thin layer of clear nail polish to the edges for extra shine.
