Step-by-step Guide to Making A Comic Book Wall Clock

I once had a plain wall clock that blended into the background so much that I barely noticed it.

Wrapping it in comic book strips gave it a whole new personality.

Now, instead of just checking the time, I catch myself smiling at the characters staring back at me. It’s a small change that completely transforms a wall.

Materials Needed

  • 1 old wall clock (10-12 inches wide works best)
  • 8-12 comic book pages (with bright, bold panels)
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Mod Podge (8 oz, matte or glossy depending on your style)
  • Foam brush (1-2 inches wide)
  • Ruler
  • Clear acrylic spraY

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Remove the clock hands carefully so you’re left with a flat clock face. Then wipe it clean to make sure there’s no dust or grease.

Step 2: Cut out your favorite comic panels. If you want a playful look, mix big cartoonish faces with sound effect bubbles like “BAM!” or “ZAP!”.

Step 3: Arrange your pieces on the clock face before gluing to see how the layout looks. This part feels like building a puzzle, it’s satisfying when the panels click into place.

Step 4: Brush on a thin layer of Mod Podge and carefully apply your cutouts, smoothing them down as you go. Overlap edges slightly so there are no gaps showing through.

Step 5: Once the face is fully covered, cut a clean hole in the center for the clock hands. Then add two to three coats of Mod Podge over the top, letting each coat dry fully.

Step 6: Reattach the hands and seal the whole clock with clear acrylic spray for durability.

Tips:

I found that choosing a theme like sticking to one character or one series keeps the clock looking cohesive.

If you want it more whimsical, mix panels from different books for a collage that feels alive with energy.
