There’s something poetic about weaving your memories into a macrame frame. Each knot feels like a tie to the past, while the photos breathe life into the present.
Hanging this piece in your living space is like suspending fragments of time, each one anchored yet free to move gently in the air.
This project is a celebration of family, friendship, and the little moments that hold us together.
Materials Needed
- 1 wooden dowel or branch (about 16-20” long)
- Macrame cord or cotton rope (3-4 mm thickness, approx. 50 ft)
- Mini clothespins or clips (10-12 pieces)
- Scissors
- Printed photos (small, around 3×4” or Polaroid size)
- Measuring tape
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut your macrame cord into equal lengths, around 4-5 feet each. Then attach them to your wooden dowel with a simple lark’s head knot, spacing them evenly.
Step 2: Begin creating simple square knots or twists down each cord to give your display texture. You should leave enough space between knots so that photos can hang freely without feeling cluttered.
Step 3: At the bottom of each strand, tie a knot to secure it and trim the ends to create neat tassels. You can brush them out with a comb for a fuller look.
Step 4: Clip your photos onto the cords using mini clothespins. Arrange them so that the memories look balanced by mixing group shots, close-ups, and candid moments.
Step 5: Hang the dowel on your wall using one long piece of cord tied at each end. Adjust until it feels level and flows naturally against the wall.
Tips: To add personality, weave in beads, feathers, or dried flowers between the cords. If you like seasonal updates, swap out the photos or add small decorations.
