How to Make An Embroidery Hoop Dreamcatcher

This embroidery hoop dreamcatcher blends rustic craft with bohemian spirit. Instead of weaving a complex web, you’ll anchor a lace doily inside the hoop, instantly creating a centerpiece that feels intricate without requiring hours of stitching. The real fun comes with the decorations—ribbons, leather cords, feathers, wooden beads, or even small charms. Each dangling piece adds texture and meaning, making every dreamcatcher unique. Beginners will appreciate how simple the steps are, yet how elegant the finished piece looks. Hung near a window, it catches sunlight during the day and seems to guard the room at night. It’s not just a craft—it’s a small ritual of beauty and intention you create with your own hands.

Materials Needed

  • 1 embroidery hoop (8″-12″)
  • 1 lace doily or crochet piece sized to fit inside the hoop
  • Assorted ribbons, yarn, or twine (12″-24″ lengths)
  • Feathers (natural, dyed, or faux)
  • Beads, charms, or buttons (wooden, glass, or metal)
  • Hot glue gun or strong fabric glue
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • String

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Place the lace doily in the center of the embroidery hoop. Stretch it carefully so it lies flat without wrinkles.

You should tighten the hoop screw and trim excess lace if needed. For added security, stitch the doily edges to the hoop or add a small dot of glue at key points.

Step 2: Cut ribbons, yarn, or leather cord into long strips, these will form the flowing strands. Vary the lengths for a more natural and bohemian look.

Step 3: Tie the ribbons and cords to the bottom of the hoop using simple knots or lark’s head knots. Layer them so some strands overlap, giving depth to the design.

Step 4: Thread beads onto the ribbons or cords. Slide them down and secure with knots so they don’t slip. Then add charms or buttons for extra detail.

Step 5: Attach feathers by tying them directly onto the ribbons or gluing them at the ends. Grouping feathers together in twos or threes creates a fuller, more balanced look.

Step 6: Add final touches, mix in dried flowers, small tassels, or metallic accents to personalize it.

Step 7: Tie a loop of string at the top of the hoop for hanging. Place it near a window or above a bed where it can move gently with the air.

Tip: You should try using natural earth-toned materials for a rustic look, or go bright with colorful ribbons and beads for a playful twist.
