How to Make A Embroidery Hoop Beaded Sun Catcher

If you’re looking for a project that combines creativity and practicality, this hoop sun catcher is perfect.

Using just wire mesh, beads, and a hoop, you can create a piece of art that doubles as window décor. It’s an ideal way to use up leftover beads from jewelry making or craft projects.

Best of all, it’s easy to customize, you just pick calming blues and greens for a coastal look, or bold jewel tones for a more dramatic feel.

Materials Needed

  • 1 large embroidery hoop (10″-12″)
  • Wire mesh or chicken wire (cut to fit the hoop)
  • Assorted beads (glass, acrylic, or crystal)
  • Charms (snowflakes, hearts, leaves, etc.)
  • Jewelry wire
  • Wire cutters and pliers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Decorative accents: faux greenery, burlap flowers, or ribbon
  • Twine or string

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Separate the embroidery hoop and use the outer ring as your frame. Then cut a piece of chicken wire slightly larger than the hoop.

Step 2: Place the wire mesh inside the hoop and tighten it securely, trimming any excess with wire cutters. Make sure the edges are tucked neatly to avoid sharp points.

Step 3: Cut pieces of jewelry wire (about 3-4 inches long). String beads and charms onto each piece, securing the ends by twisting or making small loops with pliers.

Step 4: Attach each beaded strand to the chicken wire by twisting the wire ends tightly around the mesh. You should vary the lengths and colors to create movement and depth.

Step 5: Once all your bead strands are in place, decorate the top of the hoop with burlap flowers, faux greenery, or ribbon. You can se hot glue for a secure hold.

Step 6: Tie a piece of twine at the top for hanging. Now, choose a spot where sunlight will pass through your beads for the best effect.

Tips: For extra sparkle, you can use faceted glass beads that catch the light beautifully. If you want a more bohemian look, mix in feathers or shells alongside the beads.
