Materials

  • 3–4 white basket-style coffee filters (size 8–12 cup)
  • Washable markers in assorted colors
  • Spray bottle filled with water
  • Colored construction paper (for peacock body cutouts, about 6×9 inches)
  • Safety scissors
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • Black marker for details (eyes, beak, feet)

Instructions

  • Flatten each coffee filter on your workspace. Then use washable markers to color them in rings or patterns using bright shades like blue, green, purple, and yellow.
  • Lightly spray the colored filters with water. Watch as the colors spread and mix into soft, marbled designs. Let them dry completely, about 30 minutes.
  • While drying, cut out simple peacock body shapes from construction paper. You can trace an outline first if needed.
  • Once the filters are dry, gently press them flat and glue one or two onto a sheet of colored paper as the peacock’s feathers.
  • Glue your peacock body over the center bottom of the filter and draw on the eyes, beak, and small feet.
  • Add finishing touches, extra glitter glue or sequins make these peacocks shine even brighter. Now you can display them proudly on walls or classroom boards for a burst of handmade color.
