Materials

  • 1 round coffee filter (size 8–12 cup)
  • 1 wooden clothespin (3.25 inches long)
  • Blue, green, and yellow washable markers or watercolor paints
  • 1 small feather (green or teal, about 3 inches long)
  • 2 small googly eyes (8 mm)
  • 1 small triangle of yellow paper or foam for the beak
  • Glue stick or tacky glue
  • Scissors
  • Spray bottle filled with water

Instructions

  • Flatten the coffee filter and color it with blue, green, and yellow markers or watercolor paints to resemble a peacock’s feathers.
  • Lightly mist the filter with water to blend the colors. Let it dry completely, it’ll have a beautiful tie-dye effect.
  • Once dry, fold the coffee filter in half to form a semicircle. This will be the peacock’s tail.
  • Paint or color your clothespin blue and let it dry. Glue the feather to the back of the pin’s top section.
  • Add two googly eyes and the yellow paper beak to the front of the clothespin to make the peacock’s face.
  • Clip the clothespin onto the center of the folded filter tail, and fan out the paper for a full, colorful display.
