Materials

  • 3–4 white coffee filters (size 8–12 cup)
  • Washable markers or watercolor paint in assorted colors
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Black and white construction paper
  • Googly eyes (various sizes)
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • Safety scissors
  • Pencil for sketching shapes

Instructions

  • Flatten each coffee filter and decorate it with markers or paint in fun, monster-like colors with purple, green, blue, orange, or any mix you like.
  • Lightly spray each filter with water so the colors blend together, then let them dry completely.
  • Cut out monster features from black and white paper such as mouths, sharp teeth, horns, or wavy arms.
  • Once the filters are dry, glue the paper features onto each one. Mix and match shapes to make every monster unique.
  • Add googly eyes including one big one for a cyclops look or several tiny ones for a funny twist.
  • Let everything dry, then hang your friendly monsters on the wall or windows for a colorful, not-so-scary display that shows just how creative you can be.
