Materials

  • 1 mannequin torso or stuffed shirt with frame
  • 1 long-sleeved sweater adult size
  • 1 cowboy hat 14"-16"
  • 1 pair of garden gloves
  • 1 bundle dried grasses or corn stalks approx. 30-40 pieces, 3-4 ft long
  • 15-20 faux flowers sunflowers, daisies, zinnias
  • 2-3 faux leaf garlands or real autumn leaves
  • 1 length of rope or twine 6-8 ft
  • Hot glue gun or zip ties

Instructions

  • Create the base using a mannequin torso or by stuffing a shirt and attaching it securely to a post.
  • Dress the figure with a bright sweater, gloves, and top it off with a cowboy hat for personality.
  • Gather dried grasses or corn stalks and fasten them around the waist, fanning them outward to form a skirt.
  • Decorate the skirt with colorful faux flowers and leaf garlands, gluing or tying them in place to mimic embroidery.
  • Place the scarecrow by your gate or garden path where it will stand tall as a welcoming seasonal display.
