Materials

  • 10–12 white coffee filters (size 8–12 cup)
  • Washable markers or watercolor paints
  • Spray bottle filled with water
  • Paintbrush (optional for blending)
  • Wooden dowel or stick (about 10–12 inches long)
  • Yarn or string (for hanging)
  • Hole punch or glue
  • White gel pen or metallic marker (optional for details)

Instructions

  • Flatten each coffee filter and color them with markers or watercolors. You can use soft, overlapping shades like pinks, blues, and yellows for a pastel effect.
  • Mist them lightly with water to let the colors spread and mix. Let them dry fully, this is where the magic happens.
  • Once dry, use a white gel pen or metallic marker to add tiny dots, lines, or swirls for texture.
  • Arrange the filters in a layered pattern, overlapping slightly to create a cascading look.
  • Attach each filter to the wooden dowel by either gluing them or punching small holes and threading string through.
  • Finally, tie a length of yarn to both ends of the dowel for hanging.
