Materials

  • 4–6 white coffee filters (size 8–12 cup)
  • Black clothespins (standard size, 3.25 inches)
  • Washable markers or watercolor paint in purple, gray, and green shades
  • Spray bottle filled with water
  • White paint pen or tiny googly eyes
  • Black craft paper (optional, for extra bats)
  • Glue stick or hot glue gun

Instructions

  • Flatten the coffee filters and color them with shades of purple, gray, and green using markers or watercolor paint. Mist lightly with water to blend the colors into a soft, marbled look. Let them dry completely.
  • Once dry, fold each filter accordion-style, then pinch it in the middle to form two wings.
  • Clip the folded filter with a black clothespin to create the bat’s body. Then adjust the wings so they spread evenly on both sides.
  • Use a white paint pen or glue on googly eyes to give your bat a playful face.
  • For added flair, cut out traditional bat shapes from black craft paper to mix with your coffee filter bats on walls or windows.
  • Arrange your bats in clusters or hang them from strings for a fluttering Halloween display that’s both spooky and sweet.
