Materials Needed

• 1 deep shadow box frame (11”×14” or larger)
• 30-50 ceramic shards or pottery fragments (various sizes and colors)
• Strong craft glue or epoxy
• White or neutral backing board (foam board or cardstock)
• Tweezers
• Optional: clear resin

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Collect your ceramic shards, making sure edges are safe to handle. If needed, sand down sharp points lightly.

Step 2: Arrange the pieces on your backing board, experimenting with placement until you find a flow you like such as floral fragments clustered together, or colors scattered like a mosaic.

Step 3: Once happy with your layout, glue each shard securely to the board.

You should work slowly, pressing each piece down for a few seconds.

Step 4: Allow the glue to fully dry. If you’d like a glossy, unified surface, pour a thin layer of resin over the arrangement (optional but beautiful).

Step 5: Place the finished board into your shadow box frame and seal it shut.

Step 6: Hang your framed artwork on a wall with good natural light to let the colors and patterns shine.

Tips:

If you collect ceramics while traveling or treasure-hunting, write tiny notes of where each shard came from and attach them to the back of the frame.
