When finished, it’s more than just a bag, it’s a hug in fabric form, stitched with love and ready to brighten someone’s day during the holiday season.
Step 1: Arrange your fabric squares into a patchwork design, mixing patterns and colors until you find a layout you love.
Step 2: Sew the squares together in rows, pressing seams flat as you go, then join the rows into one large panel for the front and another for the back.
Step 3: Cut and attach interfacing to the back of each panel for sturdiness. Then add lining fabric to both pieces.
Step 4: Sew the front and back panels together along the sides and bottom. You can create boxed corners by folding the bottom edges and stitching across.
Step 5: Cut two long fabric strips (4”×18”) for handles, fold lengthwise, and sew to create sturdy straps. Attach to the bag securely.
Step 6: Finish by top-stitching around the opening for a polished look.
Tip:
Adding an inside pocket is easy, just sew a small square of fabric onto the lining before assembling the bag. It’s a thoughtful touch for keys or small items!
