Materials Needed

• 6-8 wood shims (6"-8")
• 1 sturdy backing board (approx. 12"×18")
• Scrapbook paper or fabric with floral pattern (to cover backing)
• Acrylic paint or wood stain
• Small wooden tag or sign piece (approx. 2"×3")
• Burlap ribbon (12" length)
• 1 medium button (wooden or brown)
• Small faux greenery and tiny white flowers
• Glue (wood glue)
• Sandpaper

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cover your backing board with scrapbook paper or fabric. Then secure it smoothly with glue or decoupage medium so there are no wrinkles.

Step 2: Arrange the shims in a cross shape including two vertical pieces overlapped by two shorter horizontal ones. Then, stain or paint lightly, then sand down edges to give them a weathered look.

Step 3: Glue the cross pieces firmly onto the backing. Make sure it’s centered before pressing down.

Step 4: Create a bow with burlap ribbon and glue it at the center of the cross. You can add a button to the middle of the bow for rustic charm.

Step 5: Write or stencil “He Lives” on the small wooden tag, then glue it at an angle near the bow.

Step 6: Add a small bunch of faux greenery and white blossoms at the bottom of the cross for balance.
