If you’ve ever taken a walk and admired the vibrant leaves or delicate blades of grass, DIY nature leaf hanging ornament is the perfect way to preserve those moments.
With just a few simple materials, you can create nature-inspired hanging ornaments that look gorgeous in any space.
I’ve done this craft myself, and I loved the whole process - from gathering leaves to seeing them hang in my window, basking in sunlight. Let’s get started!
You'll need to prepare:
Look for interesting leaves, grasses, or even small flowers. Once you’ve gathered a handful, you’ll want to press them to ensure they stay flat.
I usually sandwich them between sheets of paper and place them under a heavy book for a few days.
Grab your cardboard and cut out circular or oval shapes . You’ll need two pieces for each ornament - a front and a back.
In one of those pieces, cut out the center so it acts as a frame. This open window is where your leaves will be displayed.
Next, cut two pieces of plastic slightly larger than the opening in your cardboard frame.
One will go on the front, and one on the back, creating a little pocket to hold the leaves.
You just use glue or double-sided tape to secure one plastic sheet to the inside of your cardboard frame.
I usually go for double-sided tape because it’s less messy, but glue works just fine too.
Now, take your pressed leaves or grasses and arrange them on the plastic sheet you’ve attached.
Next, place the second piece of plastic on top of the leaves, then glue or tape around the edges of the cardboard frame and add the solid cardboard backing on top to complete your ornament.
Finally, you use a hole punch to create a small hole at the top of your ornament.
Then, thread a piece of string or twine through the hole and tie a knot to make a hanging loop.
Now you have a set of beautiful, nature-inspired hanging ornaments that are perfect for fall or anytime you want to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside.
Hang them where the light catches the leaves to really appreciate the delicate details.
